LULZ. I’m trying to decide why 1985 is the cut off date for being age appropriate for Tumblr. Umm, so being 26/27 is okay, but if you’re 27/28 then THAT SHIT IS JUST NOT OKAY, WOAHHHHH.

I really want to see their reaction when they find out that a lot of people on Tumblr are even older than this! There are people with GRAY HAIRS on Tumblr. Senior fuckin’ citizens.

These people make me sick.

I don’t know what makes me more disgusted. This tweet or the 100+ folks that retweeted it. 

Object lesson, friends and kind relations: this is how rape culture keeps itself functioning and the wheels of it’s terrible, people destroying machine greased. It isn’t just that one person or one douchebag says or does something that turns rape into a joke, a punchline, or a triviality. It’s that A HUNDRED PLUS OTHERS give them a round of applause for it. It’s that A HUNDRED PLUS OTHERS spread it and send the very tacit, very powerful message that this is okay. That rape can be a joke and OTHER PEOPLE WILL SUPPORT YOU IN THAT IN LARGE NUMBERS. 

This is how this persists. The way any hatred persists. Because the people who talk and act in these ways can be assured that they will not meet with great opposition or forceful pushback. They can be assured that people will chuckle and laugh and support them. 

And this is how those who become rapists first have the idea planted in their skulls that the act of rape can ever be okay to do, that it’s ever something you can let yourself participate in. Because they see this and an insidious little seed of a thought just sort of grows, silent and unexamined and unconscious in their brains until it become a very very horrible action.

So all those scholarships for Irish, Polish, Italian, English, Welsh, etc. aren’t specific to white people? Oh, or how about the fact that 99.75% of all scholarships are available to white people? Not to mention the history behind race based scholarships which includes POC not being able to access federal money for college. Oh yeah, & not being able to attend most colleges.

Notice that this person said, “there is A scholarship exclusive to minorities.” Not that there are hundreds or too many. Just that there is A - implying a single - scholarship for minorities. Apparently the very thought of there being even one single little thing, even ONE scholarship that isn’t open to white people is just enraging and unbearable to this person. 

You want an education, person? Start by doing the assigned reading:

PS - I’m removing the “first world problems” tag, because umm, no. Higher learning institutions are not exclusive to highly developed nations. Other nations around the world besides those in the “first world” (woah is that problematic as hell as a phrase) have universities, colleges, and higher learning institutions and have for some time now. So, yeah. Not really a good tag to have.

I see you completely disregarded the message I appended to my submission asking you to include image descriptions for people with vision problems. I am not surprised, but I am disappointed, because that makes it all too obvious that you don’t give two shits about a significant portion of the people who belong in the 99% you claim to represent.

Ugh. Such fail. (Not the sign, but the lack of image description when requested). This is why when people accuse those with disabilities of complaining when they should “just ask!”, I roll my eyes and don’t even bother. Because anyone who thinks that we live in this perfect shiny world where accessibility requests don’t get denied or met with hostility is obviously living in the privilege bubble and needs to come out of it.
