[Images: Several photographs side by side - the originals and the finished, edited versions showing a young Black woman as the model wearing vintage 1960’s and 1970’s clothing in vintage surroundings, holding modern day technology. In one she holds an iPad, in another a digital camera, in another a laptop. The finished pictures are made to look like vintage advertisements for technology from the 1960’s and 1970’s.]

I had an design assignment for school. I could make what ever I wanted. Inspired by Mad Man I came up with a photo shoot in the style of the 60’s with products from this time.

I love this so much.

This is fantastic.

The first one warped my brain. That painting in the background is soon seventies. That is me noticing the wrong thing in pictures again. I was like who got in the time machine and gave that lady an iPad. The memo one is really cool too. I wonder how she pulled off the props or if they are manips or what

Omfg, the styling and the props and the filters and the damn fonts are dead on.

This is beyond perfect. I love it. And of course my brain is thinking, “Damn, that would be a fantastic story about time travel. Also, a TV show based on this heroine being a time-traveler of some sorts would also be immaculately AWESOME.”

Seriously, though. I love this to bits. Not just the technical mastery and the superior photoshoppery that make it look spot on, but also the overall idea. The artists wins all internets forever.

Vanity Fair - Zoe Saldana [ Harlem Renaissance ] Uptown Girl Shoot - Aug 2009

*~faints~*

!!!

Y’know, I would love a Mad Men-style TV series based on the Harlem Renaissance. 1) It was a fascinating historical and cultural period of American history that’s rarely touched in pop culture. 2) Roles for POC that do not involve the being maids and chauffeurs or the civil rights movement (as important as the latter was, it sometimes seems like the only historical period associated with POC in pop culture). 3) Period costume porn!

Hear, hear! I definitely think it’s beyond time for a Harlem Renaissance-based TV show. Can you imagine the unreal awesome of it? I mean, really, WHY ISN’T THIS ON MY TELEVISION RIGHT NOW? Get on it, TVLand. I’m tired of your shenanigans, give me something worth watching.
