The amount of white whine in comments for the poster about racism and “fair skin” is kind of making me facepalm so much right now.

Oh, fellow white people. That ad? Was mild. It was a mild and rather polite way of trying to tell you something that’s been an obvious fact…

yes, racism exists. That’s a hard truth. But why should I be blamed for something my ancestors may or may not have done? why should I have to take responsibility for somehting that may not even  relate to myself or my family?

racism still exists, yes, but you know what?

things have improved so much now!! it’s a crime what’s happened in the past, but.. it’s the past! what about “irish need not apply”? that’s racism too, and guess what.. omg irish people are white!!!!!!!!!!

i’m not afraid to point out racism, but when does equal rights become “let’s blame everything on white people”?

for the record, i see nothing wrong with that poster. it’s trying to make me feel guilty for something i haven’t done that i dislike :\

First, let me issue you your very own “Fuck you, you privilege denying, white supremacy lovin’ asswaffle”. It’s free, on the house. And there’s more where it came from.

I was wondering when somebody would bring White Whine to the party and start in with the whitesplaining and the excuses and the “but but but” and the “but that was sooooo long ago” and the “but the Irish were discriminated against!” 

Excuse me while I go laugh at such a textbook example of defensive white fail. 

Oh, fellow white person. Let’s get you a seat on the Clueless White Person bus before you wave your ass in anymore faces. 

If you’re white, everything I listed has EVERYTHING FUCKING THING to do with you and your family. Right now. Today. Because you benefit from it. And the biggest benefit is getting to be utterly, blissfully ignorant of what those benefits are or how woven into your daily life they are. A few BAJILLION people of color/non-white people who get slammed in the face by this fact have said this over and over and over. 

But you don’t want to listen to that because then you won’t get to automatically feel comfortable just because you’re white. Because you might have to earn things that you’ve been handed freely your entire life. 

Because you might just have to consider how much in your life you don’t deserve and just how drenched in other people’s blood, sweat, and tears it is. 

So, hey, instead of learning and doing some thinking, come and cry me a river of those nice white tears. Bawl at me about how baaaaaaaaaaaaad you feel. Try to derail by bringing up the “but, but, they were mean to Irish people, too” bullshit (please don’t think you’re original, every third white person who tries to derail pulls that crap). Try to distance yourself and make false dichotomies and pretend that telling the truth about the past and the present is “blaming everything on white people”. Make other people’s realities and pain about you, you, you. 

And then point me to the part of your response that is supposed to make a person of color feel better or feel like they’ll be listened to by white people. Please. Highlight it for me. Show me how your response isn’t telling PoC: “Look, your history doesn’t matter to me, and the things you live through aren’t MY problem. Sorry you get treated horribly, but I’m getting treated just fine so I don’t want to have to think about it anymore!”

Yeah, I can see how willing you are to point out racism.

I wonder if you look through the notes of tumblr posts, hoping that there will be the slightest thing to make you mad. If you find something, do you just copy paste the same essay over and over again, or do you take the time to type out “well bad things happened in the past, therefore it’s totally your fault!!11!”?

What I read: “Waaaaaaaaaaaah! You were mean to me again! Come on, why can’t you just let me not think about how I benefit from the harm done to others by racism and white supremacy and how I’m trying to deny it so I’ll feel better with my white fee fees! Waaaaaaaaaaaaah!”

Keep trying to pretend like I pointed at a finger at you and said, “You, tamdrogynous, are responsible for EVERY EVIL COMMITTED BY WHITE PEOPLE EVEN BEFORE YOU WERE BORN!”. Keep telling yourself that I’m a big meanie blaming you for what you for what others did rather than a big meanie who’s very accurately holding you accountable for what you’re doing RIGHT THE FUCK NOW. 

Person, you very badly need directions to get to the stop where the Clueless White Folks Bus stops so you can go to the stadium of Shut the Fuck Up and take your seat there.

your whole argument is “you’re racist because you don’t take responsibility for the fact that the fashion industry caters to a larger audience”. Have you been outside lately? There’s a lot of honkies about!!! I’m not going to take responsibility for a financial decision on the part of companies that produce hair care products lol.

No, it’s not. Are you even reading what you’re writing or are you just hoping that if you throw enough words at me I’ll suddenly accept your privilege denying fuckery?

I wrote a post that was addressed to my fellow white folks as a GROUP and you replied with (and I quote): “But why should I be blamed for something my ancestors may or may not have done? why should I have to take responsibility for somehting that may not even relate to myself or my family?”

You are the one who made this about you personally.

You read a post about a very big issue and about the reactions of white people as a group and made it about you personally. You took something that was about what PoC have lived through and made it ABOUT YOU and YOU FEELING GUILTY. 

You took a post in which I talked about rape, murder, torture, and genocide and started crying that it’s not your fault those big bad mean corporations and those big bad mean white people a long time ago did those things. 

And at no point have you acknowledged the fact that even if you had no hand in what corporations and the fashion industry do (products/advertising/etc), that being white means you BENEFIT because you get to see people who look like you, you get to see white faces, you get easy access to products meant for YOUR SKIN AND HAIR. 

You seem to think that acknowledging racism and how it benefits you is the same as saying, “Oh, it’s all my individual fault that these bad things happened!” And in doing so, you’re trivializing people’s lived experiences and realities which IS YOUR FAULT BECAUSE YOU ARE THE ONE SAYING THESE THINGS OVER AND OVER. 

But hey, reduce centuries of struggle, pain, and atrocities down to your fee fees and hair products that you’re not “responsible” for. Don’t let thoughts about why the fuck PoC should care and what they got through disrupt the White Whine Party you got going there.
