Jan. 26:
Relatives of Mayans killed in genocide during the Efrain Rios Montt dictatorship in Guatemala watch his hearing in a Guatemala City courtroom.
Riots Montt is being charged with genocide and crimes against humanity after a court decided there was enough evidence to charge him. One of the cases they considered was the deaths of 1,700 ethnic Mayans, who were killed in a single ‘counterinsurgency’ operation during the Guatemalan Civil War.
He was armed by the U.S. during this period, which means the U.S. is also responsible for genocide.

What’s even worse is that this one? Hardly the first the U.S. has been involved in or directly conducted. We have a long and bloodied, wretched history of it.
